Last night, I had my boss’ celebratory party for his birthday and marriage. I had a few drinks and was glad to find I made the last bus back to Susan’s. But I must have fallen asleep pretty early on (jetlag is still pretty bad with me this time).
I was woken up when the driver nudged me after the bus had stopped. In Paterson. Now if I were to make a list of ten cities I would not want to be walking around in, lost, at 2:15am, Paterson would be in the 5. I wasn’t in a particularly bad area of Paterson, thankfully, but I certainly didn’t know where I was.
I found a road I recognized and walked the only way I could go on it. I stopped in at a KFC, and then later at a bar, and they just pointed me down Broadway and said “keep going”. Finally, I recognized Rt. 4 and managed to get my way back to Susan’s place. Which was locked. All doors. THANKFULLY, Jeff is a light sleeper and I called him and he let me in.
In all, it was only 4 miles, but I was pretty frickin’ tired and NOT in the mood. And I was in Cons. My feet are killing me today.
*sigh*
Now tomorrow I get to drive at 5 in the morning to MA in a car that just failed inspection. AWESOME!
So the Lizards are out. They cost $3000 to book, + rooms. If we got 30 people, that’s still over $100 each (not counting their own airfare to get out here, and the cost of the cabin). Not worth it, but if someone has much money and wants to get me an awesome birthday gift, then you know what to do.
Who’s still in for Tahoe/Reno? Jaymar and not Aaron is all I got so far, which is good, because those two as we know should be kept far apart.
So I’ve started giving thought to a 30th Birthday Party. Mitch has already given a greenlight to having it at Lake Tahoe, renting out a cabin and so forth. I’m thinking later in September or October (though no later than that because the weather turns cold fast). Probably two days at Tahoe, and one day around Reno so the gamblers can get their fix. So the first question is, would anyone who reads this (mostly east coasters) honestly think about making the trip out here?
Now the follow-up question: would it sway anyone’s opinion if I could get the Austin Lounge Lizards to somehow play a show? I haven’t gotten their pricing yet, but I spoke to them at their last show two days ago, and they said if they’re in the area (which they hope to be in the autumn) it’s significantly cheaper to hire them.
And would anyone want to help defray the costs if they were to say yes? (They do private parties quite often, and they said they would be all aboard if I could swing it – I’m guessing I won’t be able to, but it’s a nice thought)
Whattaya ya all think?
p.s. Read this.
We got ourselves an action-packed weekend. I’m leaving work early today to head on down to Ash’s school and help her out with her special needs kids. All I know is that one spits, many run, and one little girl will love me. Armed with all that knowledge, how can I go wrong?
Then we’ll probably do some baking or cooking (read: she’ll do some baking and I’ll try not to set anything on fire) and go to bed early. It’s gonna be a long Saturday.
We head on out to San Jose first to meet up with Erin and drop off her gift that Ash worked months on. We’ll be there for about 9 minutes (totally worth the 4+ hour trip!
) Then we go up to San Fran to meet up with a bunch of people from OkCupid (the site where Ash and I met). There, we will meet up with COREY, who gets capital letters. He is only two miles from the park. There, we don pink bunny ears (???) and meet some neat folk.
After an hour or two, we head up to Winters CA to see the Austin Lounge Lizards (marking my 6th show in 5 states), stopping first to meet CYRUS and friend for steak dinner. Then over to the show. I’m holding my breath for Buenos Dias Budweiser, and I’m still clinging onto the hope that I’ll hear Anahuac live before I die. I might have to have them play a private party for that one.
Then we decide if we want to head back with Cyrus, who lost his capital letters, and hang out the next day with him and another friend of Ash’s. Decisions decision. Probably not, with Mother’s Day and all, but we’ll see.
Lots to do, lots to do…
It looks like FFII is done, with Huzza, P O A, Douche and Slifth taking 36:16 to complete the game.
I seem to have forgotten how much this game is not at all good. Even with the fancier graphics, this one just doesn’t have it. It takes forever to level up, and at full leveling, some of the spells like Ultima (supposedly the best in the game) do maybe 500 worth of damage. Bollocks!
And what’s worse is that I didn’t get everything in the game. I got all the items, but there were 3 creatures in the bestiary I couldn’t get. One was in the deserts and I didn’t get them at the time, figuring I’d get them at the end, but at the end of the game, all overworld creatures are different, and you can no longer find the sandworms. So I didn’t break my back looking for the other two, which are extremely rare to find. (In fact, one of them wasn’t listed as an enemy in ANY of the locations in the walkthrough I used)
Onto FFIII, which Jiffy managed to scrounge up for me. I’ve already started it – boy those NES graphics and sound are lousy.
